SOHAR - INDEPENDENT WATER & POWER PROJECT (IWPP)

SOHAR IWPP is an independent water and power project implemented on a Build-Own-Operate (BOO) basis by Sohar Power Company SAOC (the "Project Company") a consortium lead by Tractebel EGI and its local partners National Trading Corp., Zubair Corp., WJ Towell & Co., Sogex Oman, and the Ministry of Defense Pension Fund (MODPF).

The Project Company is responsible for the financing, design, procurement, construction, commissioning, operation and maintenance of the plant for a concession period of 15 years.
The Plant consists of three dual fuel (natural gas / diesel oil) gas turbine generator units (Siemens V94.2 model) in combined cycle configuration with one steam turbine generator unit, along with associated step-up transformers and ancillary facilities.

The Desalination Facility comprises four multi-stage flash (MSF) units, along with associated ancillary facilities. The Guaranteed Contracted Power capacity of the Plant is 585 MW and the Guaranteed Contracted Water capacity is 6,250 m³ per hour (approximately equivalent to 33 MIGD).

The full commercial operation of the Plant started on 28th May 2007
