:: Projects
Al-Ghubrah IWPP
Background
Due to the increased
cost of energy in general and natural gas in specific, OPWP had been
instructed by the Government for the possibility of converting the
Open Cycle Gas Turbine into Combined Cycle Gas Turbine as part of
the Fuel Gas conservation initiated by Ministry of Oil and Gas. OPWP
appointed PB Power to develop various technically feasible options
to increase the potable water and power capacity and to improve the
overall fuel efficiency of Al Ghubrah Power and Desalination Plant.
Based on the improvement study, OPWP proposes to add additional
power and water desalination capacities to Al Ghubrah Power and
Desalination Plant in order to meet the future demands. The
proposed additional capacities are to be executed by splitting the
existing Al Ghubrah Power and Desalination Plant site into two
parts; East and West. The East part of the plant will remain as
it is with Al Ghubrah Power and Desalination Company whereas the
west part along with the existing facilities will be allocated for
new IWPP with some sharing facilities with the east part.
The proposed new Al-Ghubrah IWPP capacity in the west part of Al
Ghubrah Power and Desalination Plant is 30 MIGD and about 500 MW
Power capacities by utilizing the same gas consumption rate of the
existing plant, with a minor increase.
Location
The project is located in Al-Ghubrah area in Muscat.
